Marketing Yourself on the Web

Now that technology has become a big part of our lives, we no longer have to actually go out and make hand-made posters and waste all the time and energy it takes to post them up on real walls and hand them out to people; the computer can do all of that for us in a matter of minutes. There are apps, websites, programs and lots more that can help project who we are and what we do.

Some websites that help us do that are common ones like: FaceBook, MySpace, and Twitter. And then are other sites such as: LinkedIn, Monster, and WikiSpaces. While the first few ones are mostly social media sites where one can talk about their personal lives, the latter is dedicated to their professional lives and can help them represent themselves and their skills to people either with similar abilities or those in search of those qualities.

I recently created a WikiSpaces, here's a QR Code that you can scan to get there and check it out!

What is the Importance of Having an E-Portfolio

An E-Portfolio is basically your own web page where you can post your information - but nothing too personal - and you have the authority to allow or block anyone from viewing it. I recently created a E-Portfolio and there are various sections regarding me. There's a section where you can read up about me and find out what kind of person I am, what skills I have, and my future goals as well, then there's a section that have all my work - in Photoshop - posted, and even a fun page where you can take surveys, find links to my social media sites, and little widgets like today's date, temperature, a cute little animation, things like that. An E-Portfolio can really help make a person go from being just a normal anonymous person to being someone known and acknowledged, because they suddenly have a creative way to reach out to influential people and get them to notice them.

Here's a link to my own E-Portfolio, and I hope that by checking out my own page, and learning more about E-Portfolios, you too will want to create one for yourself. It's a very simple process and can really go a long way. Or even better, here's a QR Code to getting to my E-Portfolio:

Photoshop

For the past two weeks, I studied Photoshop. Photoshop is the process of digitally altering a picture or video using an image-editing software. The idea of it seems pretty simple, but I've run into more than one issue with something or other. Like when I was trying to crop out a specific picture without including the background, it's very tedious and you have to get it just right or the whole picture gets ruined. But, there are still these really cool tricks to help clean up a picture if it's not looking right or you can change up the little details for it to look even cooler.

Photoshop allows for everyday simple looking objects or people to suddenly have a different body or be transported somewhere they've probably never heard of and I think that's the really awesome part of Photoshop.

Here are some of the works I've created with Photoshop:

Blogs of Interest

In the hoping of having a great blog, I've researched some blogs on the Internet and came up with two good looking blogs to get some ideas and inspiration from.

One of them is: Classe Touriste, which is a blog dedicated to traveling. What I liked the most about the site is that the bloggers go to hard-to-reach areas like Antarctica and North Korea and then take spectacular looking photographs and share them with the rest of the world that haven't gotten the chance to experience or view them themselves. The site has beautiful pictures and they have different sections for each part of the world. Their blog literally helps transport whoever is viewing it to a whole new world.

Another blog I've been looking towards to as a way to improve my own blog is: A List Apart, which is a blog that teaches about web designing. The blogs covers the whole spectrum of web design topics and even places a special emphasis on the best practices and web standards. This blog can help tremendously, because one of the topics of web designing is creating a blog and what better way to learn to have the perfect blog than learning it from a blog itself that's devoted to teaching that topic?

What I Learned About Blogs

In the one week that I've been learning and focusing on blogs, I've learned many things about them. For instance, a blog requires your full responsibility and it takes a while before it can grow into something with a lot of views and likes. You have to work hard on it, making sure everything from the font to the pictures is perfect. The subject you are writing abut though, does not have to be perfect, because those are your thoughts and your opinions and what anyone else thinks about what you're writing does not matter enough for you to change what you want to write about. But, most importantly, I learned that having a blog is not as easy as it seems and I know that now.

What is a Blog?

I have not had a blog before today, but I do know a few things about having one. A blog happens to be a personal website on which you are able to write about your own thoughts, opinions, likes, dislikes, your goals, your planes, your whole life story; you could add links to other sites, and etc. on a regular basis.

I know that everyone is capable of having a blog, but not everyone might have a popular or most viewed one. For that, you'd have to work hard, always be on top of your posts, and make it a entertaining and useful blog. The font has to agree with the background, the pictures and videos have to be appropriate, the animations fun and the overall blog creative. And then little by little, your blog will end up being on the best and at the top of the list.

Having a blog isn't easy, it takes time and energy. You can't just have a blog and then forget abut it. It's something that needs to be updated daily or weekly, not monthly or yearly. But, the more you do it, the easier it becomes to find interesting topics and things to write about. And I'm sure, I'll be able to do the same.
